Heritage in Schools- Our Locality Newtowngore

We were so lucky to host Heritage in Schools Specialist Ann with us in Newtowngore for 5 different workshops. Ann helped us discover lots about Newtowngore and what life would have been like in the past. The senior room completed a project on Newtowngore. We looked at the old school, the clothing factory, the sawmills, the dolmen, the hall, Woodford Castle and St. Patrick’s Church and the ruins of the church founded by St. Patrick.

We also looked at artefacts from the past, looked at the flowers and animals found in our habitat, made clay models and a map of the village and heard some of the great myths and legends from the past.

The highlight of one of the workshops was exploring what life would have been like living in a ringfort. We discovered that Newtowngore had ringforts and were lucky to be allowed visit one.

Many thanks to Heritage in Schools for partially funding this visit.
